Hi Jaapv. The posted image seems a bit cluttered and the Oystercatcher seems rater centered horizontally to my eye. Here’s my attempt to redo it. I did have to clone out part of the upper center bird. Other than that it was just the crop, a slight clockwise rotation, and a touch of burning on the neck of the gull.
Yes, I think you are right, the diagonal composition is better than the triangular one. I’ll probably try a content-aware expansion to regain the 4:3.

That is a nice looking Oystercatcher, with good color control the beak and black and white of the body. The head turn and eye contact are a nice add. The re-crop by Dennis helps the framing of the Oystercatcher.
