Glowing in afternoon sun is this highly-fractured volcanic plug (diatreme) near the southern boundary of Monument Valley that some say resembles the architectural designs for newer cathedrals. Agathla Peak, 1500 feet high, is in the background, approximately 7 miles north.

Gorgeous capture of colors, light, shadows and expanse. I love the depth with Agathla Peak in the background. Hard to believe that’s 7 miles. No better time to drop to a knee and thank God for the beautiful masterpieces created.
Thank you, Todd. There are a number of diatremes in this area which are all called “Church Rock” including Agathla Peak. The natives can direct you to this one east of Kayenta on Highway 160.
