Dirt Common, But Looking Good

Description:

While birding along the Lake Huron shoreline, I found a young ring-billed gull perched on a poplar snag. Even though they are dirt common, I liked how it was perching on something natural in the morning light. Gulls are clever and this one was checking out some hikers to see what they had brought for snack.

Specific Feedback Requested:

Pertinent technical details or techniques:

D500 600mm f4 (1/640 sec at f10, ISO 250) Topaz DeNoise, Levels, Curves, Brightness & Conbtrast. I used Hue and Saturation to reduce the amount of Cyan in the sky.
Is this a composite? (focus stacks or exposure blends are not considered composites)

Ha, what a perfect pose, Jim. And nicely positioned in the frame. No matter how common they are, it’s an awesome image.

Hi Jim
Sometimes the common has just the right look. Nicely framed, with control of the whites, detail and eye contact.

Gulls are beautiful! I love how the perch is the same colorations as the gull!
