Eating invaders

Procambarus clarkii is an invasive species in Europe and considered a pest. Fortunately, it is also appreciated food, as can be seen here  “My” Great crested grebes have been nesting extremely early this year (approx 4 weeks earlier than usual) and catch not only fish to feed the young, but also Louisiana crawfish. The crawfish is skilfully demolished and offered in pieces to the young birds. If the crawfish is too tough, the prey is swallowed completely by one of the parents.
