Green Woodhoopoe with Lizard Prey

I’ve been mostly offline for the past few weeks leading a photo tour in South Africa, I’m back home now and this is the first shot I’m sharing from the trip, this was taken at Addo Elephant National Park from some distance, so it’s cropped quite a bit already. But I was thrilled to get it with a lizard, I think it was feeding chicks as it flew off with the prey.

I like the composition with the blurred background complimenting the foreground/habitat colors. Nice detail and colors in the bird and the lizard is great. I wonder if it would be appropriate to lighten the eye a bit? There is a whitish circular area in the mid-upper area that does tend to draw the eye a bit in the larger version.

Really nice color in this behavioral image. The detail stands out well and the bird pops nicely against the background. Some of the greenery is a little distracting but there’s not much you could do about that because of the environment.
