Lake Matheson, near Fox Glacier, nature has combined exactly the right ingredients to create truly stunning reflections of New Zealand’s highest peaks - Aoraki (Mount Cook) and Mount Tasman. The waters of Lake Matheson are dark brown, so on a calm day they create the ideal reflective surface. The colour is caused by natural leaching of organic matter from the surrounding native forest floor. By a happy coincidence, the mountains to the east are perfectly positioned to reflect in the lake.
So nice for me to see this, Keith. I have been quite a few times to NZ visiting the rellies and we went one time to this lake but were unlucky with the weather. This is a beautiful capture of it - really nice tonality.
Thank you for posting this gorgeous image. What a magnificent location.
Absolutely stunning! I love images like this: the scene itself, quality of light, colors, and perfect reflection. The emotion here is wonderful. Serene, tranquil, calm- I could go on and on. Excellent work.
