Ok last post from Feb 14

Like the Hooded Merganser I posted on Feb. 17, this Red-brested Merganser was heading out of Dodge in a hurry. I just got out of the car and he was gone.

Is this a composite: No
Canon 7Dll, Sigma 150-600mm, F8, 600mm, -.3EV, ISO 800. The shot is hand held and cropped by 45%. in Dxo PhotoLab 4 I brought up the blacks using Tone Curves and in the Nik Collection I use color contrast to add more detail.
Thanks for stopping.

The whites look a little hot, but I like this even though the bird is going away. The bow wave he’s kicking up shows that he’s in a hurry.

Another skittish bird. Well done on a tough exposure. The looking back pose is nice and gives a good look at the Merganser.

Hi Peter, a photogenic species for sure. I like the head/neck feathers sticking out - quite distinctive. I think the bird is well placed in the frame also. I find getting feather detail on jet black feathers is tough in cloudy conditions and it seems that is the case here on the head.

Wonderful back view with perfect head turn.
