Sanderling eating fish

I saw this Sanderling eating a fish that had died and washed up to shore due to red tide. Seagrove Beach, FL (October 2018). We had to leave the next morning due to an incoming hurricane.

Canon 7D2, 400mm f4 DO IS II, 1.4x TC III
ISO 400, f6.3, 1/2500s, hand held

Great behavior photo! I wish I had this kind of luck with Sanderlings, I can never get clear photos of them, haha. Lovely detail!

Allen, excellent image detail and exposure. I must say I’ve never seen a Sanderling with scavenging behavior like this.

Nice shot, Allen. Excellent behavior and detail in the Sanderling. The background is really cool. Was there a breaking wave back there?
