Milkweed is a necessary food plant for the Monarch Butterfly Caterpillar. It has a glycoside, a toxin that the caterpillar takes up and makes it and the butterfly unpalatable to preditors. The loss of Milkweed habitat is one of the contributing factors to the dramatic reduction in Monarch Butterfly populations.

I’ve been too busy out taking photos to do much posting. Now that it is raining here in Portland, I may have more time to post.

I’ve never explored the milkweed flower. You’ve proved it is a worthy subject. Nicely done.

Don: I’m not familiar with this variety of milkweed so this is a treat. I love the structure of the flowers and the buds. For me the flash borders on being a bit too strong but still works well. Nicely done. >=))>
