When herons take flight over a lake, they generally drag their feet through the water a couple of times, before becoming completely airborne. This shot was taken very early one morning, from my kayak, hand-held.

Impressive shot Michael . . . even more so given hand-held from a kayak . . . the splash, water drops, and reflection complete this action shot.
I’d love to have this one in my collection. The heron really stands out against all the dark. I really like the arch of water droplets behind the heron. Great composition, too!
Absolutely gorgeous shot, well prepared, timed and executed.
