The Boss

A Purple Martin against a bright overcast. I brought the Martin up and tried to bring out plumage detail without losing the true darkness of the plumage.

Dennis, this is a fine portrait of this Martin. I especially like the negative space. Another fine example of putting an overcast sky to good use. The details in the chest feathers show well.

Mark, I do have a question about this. Is having a lot of negative space the same as being a high key image?

Igor, negative space is not the same as high key, unless that space is very bright. I was going to say that white or light gray is needed, but as I think about it, I can imagine a scene with other very light colors such as blue, green or pink.
