Not the most beautiful specimen around, but I couldn’t resist posting this goldfinch going through the molt to winter plumage.

Is this a composite: No
Sony A1, FE 200-600 + 1.4 TC @ 840 mm, tripod with gimbal head from blind, f/9, 1/400, iso 640, fill flash at -2.3 EV, Manual exposure. The only processing on this one was in LR where I raised the global exposure a bit, cropped it to 6429x4517, and used the local adjustment brush to accent the face. Taken August 27th at 10:30 AM.

Hi Dennis
You are the master of the fill flash. This photograph really show how small the DOP is at 840mm, (the head is sharp and the tail is soft).
The overall look of this shot is very pleasing.

Nice molten goldfinch. Great head plumage detail.
DOF at f9 surprises me but you mus have been close.
