Owl Tree

Critique Style Requested: Standard

The photographer is looking for generalized feedback about the aesthetic and technical qualities of their image.

Description

Punta Trieste, Alta Badia, Italian Dolomites. The snow was too warm and heavy for me to ski, so time to walk around with my camera

Technical Details

Leica M Monochrom 1, Voigtländer Nokton 1.5/50

That is so weird! I love it. It’s such a unique and unfamiliar image.

I hope you don’t mind, but I am going to move it to the Non-Nature category since the primary subject is not nature (sort of). :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks for liking the image  I am fine with it being moved. It raises an interesting photographic question, though: Do the mountains support the subject or is it an element in a mountain landscape? I would suggest that the fore- and background are equally dominant. Best Jaap.

I think it is a bit of a gray area. It probably could go either way. I struggle with some of these images and where they should go…the guidelines for landscapes state:

“Human elements are acceptable as long as they are not the main subject.”

So, is the owl tree the main subject? Maybe because that’s the title of the post? An interesting question.

Cheers,
David
